Relationship marketing is important to search engine optimisation. We are all tired of being advertised to. Do not be taken in by the usual rubbish of "make $10 000 a week immediately". You do not have to do any work and they will make you rich. The usual lie that has given this wonderful world of internet marketing and search engine optimisation a bad name and left many people with the wrong idea and has left many people disappointed and broke.

You will notice that there is a certain common trend on the internet. A person will join a program. The reason they joined the program is that maybe their neighbour or network marketing friend asked them to join. This person would produce the usual hype of getting into the program as quickly as possible because they and that person will make a lot of money. The person joins the program and they are given a replicated website. This is the first mistake from a search engine optimisation standpoint.

They punch in the person's name, email address and phone number on that website and the person thinks that the money will now start rolling in. This will never happen as that person does not have a clue about the network marketing and internet world. Also, from an SEO perspective, that replicated website is dead and will not be seen by the search engine spiders on the internet. That person does not know where to start, at all. The point is, do you know exactly what your program is about? You will be surprised as to how many people join programs and who do not have the faintest idea as to what their program involves or how it works.

This is obviously so wrong and lacks common sense, amongst other basic instincts. If you do not belong to a program that you believe in and that has a good product or service, you are wasting your time and money. Do not even bother starting a search engine optimisation marketing campaign to promote that product, service or website. The replicated websites that most of these programs have are dead. They leave it up to you to advertise and advertising on the internet is dead and does not work.

You are probably wondering what bum marketing is, and how you can make money from it yourself. It is quite simple really, all you need to do is find an affiliate program you like, and then promote it using free outlets such as Squidoo or Blogger. By creating a web of interconnected articles marketing your products as well as your other articles, you will gain organic traffic quickly and easily. By using article marketing you allow your articles to be picked up by giants such as Google and Yahoo without actually dedicated all that much time or resources to building backlinks as you would need to if you planned on starting your own website.

Bum marketing is based off keyword research, you need to find a niche and work from there. Gurus will pick the highly competitive niches as they will yield the highest results if they are done correctly but for new bum marketers it is a far better idea to start small. Find a niche that isn't overly competitive that has products to be sold. This can take time, you need to do research to determine what markets are flooded with affiliate marketers and which aren't, a good way to determine this is to do a Google search for keywords you would like your bum marketing articles to target. If there is a full page of Google AdWords results (11 sponsored links) then you most likely will not fair too well to begin with in this niche. Finding the right niche can be hard but once you do you should stick with it and watch the profits soar. Once you have a niche, all of your articles, webpages, sales pitches, etc. will become relevant to each other, and through this relevancy you can increase traffic and sales conversions across the board as you target new keywords. The key to bum marketing is getting organic traffic. While there are millions of marketers that manage to make money without organic traffic (traffic that comes naturally from search results as opposed to paying for advertising) you will need a solid base of organic traffic.

My personal steps for using bum marketing on various products:

• Find a niche that isn't overly crowded that you can talk about.

• Find products within the niche that are the right price and quality so that they will lead to sales and therefore commissions.

• Research keywords that could be used to search for that specific product as well as general keywords that people would search for that may be willing to buy the product.

• Build a Squidoo lens or a Blogspot blog for the product giving an unbiased review (I never sell products that don't work well, I refuse to scam people for money).

• Build backlinks for the lens or blog, typically with a little bit of article marketing and purchasing a social bookmarking package from a SEO firm.

• Promote products using social networks such as Facebook and MySpace, especially MySpace.

• Watch the commissions roll in as I hit the front page of Google and Yahoo, and find ways to expand my product line using traffic from various sources.

Bum marketing or even affiliate marketing in general is not for everyone. In order for it to work, you must be patient, there is no other option. I started using bum marketing a few months back and now it is already paying large dividends for me. I'm currently a 19 year old freshman college student yet I am making enough money online to pay for my graduate school as well as a brand new car, hopefully this information will lead to your success as well. Article writing is the best way to spread your links. It is free; and it helps add value to your Internet presence through the information you share in the articles. You write an article about 500 words and submit it to prominent article directories. You can reference your web url in your resource box attached with the article. The more directories you submit your articles to, the more back links you build.

Writing articles can be challenging for some people. If you want to hold your standards high and write your own articles, it could be time-consuming. Alternatively, you can hire ghost writers to do the job for you at a cost. $10 for a 300-500 word article when you commit in bulk (maybe 8-10 articles) is a decent price.

I personally like to write my own articles despite the fact that it is time-consuming. I like the fact that it is my voice and that I learn what I have to write about through the research and experimenting.

For Internet marketing newbies, the first block may be not knowing what to write about. When you are new, you do not feel like an authority in anything. How do I come up with an article when I do not know enough about anything? You may ask.

The answer is "Quite the contrary!" You have a lot more to write about when being the newbie than a veteran to some extent. Anything you are learning can be committed to paper. This is much like a school paper. You have to do some research, carry out the experiment, share the results (or sometimes not necessarily), and reach a conclusion.

Some areas where you may find plenty to write about are:

- how each of your affiliate programs works

- how you solved a problem in building your home biz

- new things you've learned and your thoughts on them

- your views and revelations in your area of interest

- resources that you have found that have worked well for you

- documenting you success experience with step by step instruction

Covering various topics in these areas may also gradually establish you as an authority in building your home biz online.

If the above suggested areas of topics are too vague for you, there is another way that is more specific. Visit Internet marketing related forums (e.g. Warriorforum). Pay attention to what questions people are asking. Make those questions your assigned topics to write about. Do the necessary research (if you do not already know the answer) and document your findings and conclusions. Since the same questions are asked over and over again by different people, you may get a chance to share your findings at a later opportunity, which will in turn build you a solid backlink (when you plant your web url in your signature).

Still another specific way to find what to write about is to read what other people have written. Then, try to rehash the same content in your own words adding your own spin to it. It is better that you add some new and/or unique input to the original content. This is not difficult to do as we are all so opinionated and find ourselves disagreeing with each other easily and often.

It is also advisable to keep a list of topics you want to write about. If you are like me, you will have days when you feel extremely inspired that you have something to say about everything. Those are usually the times when you only have enough time to do perhaps one article. Other times, you are dealt the writer's block where you just cannot think of anything to write about. Experience tells me that it is a smart habit to get into to note down all the things you want to comment/write about in your brief moments of inspiration. These notes, though it takes some discipline to keep, will prove to be little sparkles of intellect when your mind goes through the duller phase.

It is not an easy task but it can be accomplished as long as you apply this one simple strategy along with all your hard work. * Private Deals. However, the most lucrative rewards and residual income can come with private or individual deals you make with a particular company. My experience, if you manage to attain top rankings for the top keywords in a particular industry these companies will come to you with a private deal. Your job is to acquire or find clients/accounts for that company and receive a commission or percentage of all revenue this client generates for the life of that account.

* Smaller Companies. Sometimes it is the smaller less known company in your particular industry or niche that will offer the best deal. It may be harder to promote a lesser known company but the rewards may even be greater.

* Cookies. Keep in mind, another version of residual income is the good old cookie; you refer a customer to a company and this customer is cookied with your affiliate id... any sales made from your cookied referral will earn you money. Check the length of these cookies, some are 24 hours, 90 days... the longer the better. I seek out companies which give life-long cookies, they are rare but they do exist!

* Major Point: The key to picking the best affiliate programs for residual income is picking companies that offer services like web hosting, phone services, cable services, marketing services... anything that people sign-up for and then rarely change. This will earn you a monthly commission for as long as they use this service. I am presently earning commissions on sales I made 4 or 5 years ago.

* Use PPC. Pay Per Click advertising can be a very effective way of kick-starting your residual income if you know what you're doing. This form of advertising can get very costly very quickly so proceed with caution. I found even with a low conversion rate and a high cost per click charge you can bid higher with a residual income affiliate program because it is not a one time sale. You can afford to outbid your competition, but don't try for the number one position; I have found the best place to have your PPC ad is in the third spot.

* Never Put All Your Eggs In One Basket. Don't just promote one affiliate company or service, instead spread your marketing over difference services and companies to earn multiple streams of residual income from different sources. If one should dry up, you will have plenty of others to rely on. Besides, getting 10 or 20 monthly checks will always put a smile on your face. Trust me!

Of course, there are many more factors involved in producing a full time residual online income but these points will help get you started in the right direction. Don't get the wrong impression, this income won't just suddenly appear, you do have to do some hard work marketing and promoting your chosen affiliate companies or services to make the initial sales. But the rewards are very sweet, and they just keep coming and coming and coming...
