Article marketing is a great way to build an internet business. One of the things I really like about article marketing is the more articles that you write and post on the article directories, the more traffic, prospects, publicity and profits come your way.

Article marketing is a numbers game - the higher your article numbers, the higher the rest of your numbers (traffice, prospects, subscribers, customers) will be.

Life begins around 100 articles

Now don't panic. One hundred articles sounds like an unreachable goal if you are just starting out, but it is achievable. I have one student/mentee that is going for 100 articles in 100 days.

Once you get to that level, and sometimes even before, you begin to experience the benefits of something I have come to call "The John Grisham Effect."

You know what it is like - you read a novel by an author you have never read before. You really like the book. So you want to read more by the same author. You go looking for what else that author has written. Sometimes you wind up reading everything that author has written.

It is the same as you begin to get more and more articles on the article directories. Someone finds and uses your article, and they have found your article to be very useful. So then the reader wants to know if you have written anything else. Then your new prospect is excited because they have found more information by you.

Pretty soon you have a loyal reader, subscriber, fan and maybe even customer. All from writing and marketing good quality articles.

Marketing is vital piece to having success on the internet. Without effective marketing nobody will know that you exist. One of the top methods on the internet today is article marketing. Through article marketing you can display your expertise, find a target market, and generate a great deal of traffic.

If you are looking to generate more traffic to your site, writing articles can be a great way to do just that. What many people do not understand is targeted traffic is far more important than the amount of traffic you receive. It is much better to receive five visitors to your site and have five sells than it is to have one hundred visitors with no sells. And article marketing allows you to find that targeted traffic.

After writing an article it is essential you take the time to submit it to as many article directories as possible. Once you arrive at the article directory you will notice you can submit your article to a specific category. Therefore, if you are writing a home business article you can submit it to a home business category.

Then, when people come to look at articles they can go to the category they are interested in. What this means for you is you will have people who are interested in what you have to say reading your articles. But how do you generate traffic to your site through article marketing you may wonder?

The way you generate traffic is through your resource box. The resource box is placed at the end of your article and serves as a marketing piece for your web site. This is where you write your name, two or three sentences about your business and a link to your home page or whatever page you want to direct readers to. After reading your article, readers can then be directed easily to where you want them to go.

The great thing about article marketing is it allows you to display your expertise to people who are interested. You can give people a taste of what they will find at your site prior to even coming to your site. This is something paid advertising and banners simply cannot do.

Between displaying your expertise and finding targeted traffic, this is easily one of the most effective marketing techniques on the internet. Content is something everyone on the internet reads and looks for. Because of this, you are sure to have a great deal of people reading your articles. And if your article is intriguing, your article marketing will generate web site traffic.

Three Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

When you are using article marketing for the purpose of driving traffic, you are instead going to submit a large number of original articles to a small number of article directories. Generally, you should submit each article to the top 5 or 6 article directories, based on the traffic level and pagerank of the article directories. This will allow you to gain maximum exposure to actual visitors, but will not create as many links into your web site.

This method relies on the pagerank and traffic of the article directories themselves to get traffic to your web site, rather than creating high search engine rankings for your own web site. One advantage to this method is that you do not have to wait for your web site to slowly climb from a pagerank of 0 to a pagerank of 6 or 7 to get traffic, you can simply get traffic from the article directories themselves.

The disadvantage to this method is that the bulk of your traffic will be dependent on the traffic of the article directories. If the article directories themselves were to go out of business, or the search engines were to delist or ban the article directories, then you would not be getting traffic whereas if you had built multiple inbound links and natural search engine traffic, you would not be impacted as strongly if a few of the article directories went out of business.

Once again, I am hesitant to answer the question, how many articles do I need to write? I think the question should be, how many articles can I write?. At the time of this writing, I have written over 1200 articles, and am actively writing and submitting more. At what point do I stop? I have every reason to believe that when I have 2400 articles I will have more traffic than I do now with 1200 articlesand of course, there will still be room to grow from there.

I can tell you this, if you have the attitude that you are just going to write a few articles and see what happens, you will be surely disappointed. A few articles will tell you nothing. You could get a few subscribers, or you could get hundreds of subscribers, but neither scenario will give you an idea of how well you will do long run in article marketing.

You see, with article marketing, each month you are adding articles to your store of online content. What this means is that each month there are more opportunities for people to find, read, and click through from your articles. To visualize this, imagine that you submit 100 articles per month for one year. Do you think you will get more traffic in the 12th month than in the first month, or the third month? Of course you will, because you will have more articles for people to read. You cannot simply think that you get so much traffic if you submit 100 articles this month because next month you will have all of this months articles online, plus the new ones you write and submit. And of course that continues to be cumulative through each month.

Q: How do I re-purpose 5 existing articles to the article directories ASAP?

A: That's a great question because many people have existing content sitting around somewhere that they could quickly and easily post online in the article directories.

So here are the steps to get your existing content up quickly.

Step 1 - Focus on just one article directory to start, and I'll suggest EzineArticles. I'll show you my three tiered submission approach to all the article directories in another article.

Step 2 - Get an account at EzineArticles - Simple and easy to do. You get your account and can start submitting articles right away.

Step 3 - Chunk it down - Most content that has been written before may be too long for the article directories. Writing articles for distribution on the internet is a different animal. If you have an article that is 900 words long, you want to chunk it down into at least 2 articles, maybe three. In this way you have 3 "article agents" out there working for you instead of just one.

Step 4 - Submit your article - So many people put off this step because they are waiting for their article to be perfect. DON'T do that! Get your article(s) out there working for you. You can go in and tweak and fine tune them later. This is especially true when you are re-purposing old content.

Step 5 - Do steps 3 and 4 over and over again. Article marketing is a numbers game, and the higher your article volume the higher all your other numbers will be.

Today in online article marketing we find that there are many things that writers will do to churn out lots of material. Some online article marketers will use computer-generated software to help them write their articles faster. This also helps them with the proper buzzwords which assist in keyword marketing on the search engines. Unfortunately a "key wording bandit" is doing a disservice to the Internet by putting debris across the subject matter or domain of worthless information.

By doing this some writers are clouding the Internet and yes it makes it more difficult for readers to find exactly what they're looking. Instead they are diverted to a web site where someone is trying to sell them something and make money rather than to a place where they can find the information they're looking for as a type in their search on the Internet.
